LA PLUME DE DAVID ALEXANDRE LIEBERMANN

Piercing the dark

A veil of blue has chilled my days,
I search for why through drifting haze.
Yet nothing clear will come in sight,
Just shadows shifting in the light.

I try to look into the deep,
And breathe to lull the storms to sleep,
Accepting what will come to be,
To grant my mind some clarity.

A few stray pieces slowly start
To surface gently in my heart,
Yet heavy effort must be spent
To mend the shapes that sorrow bent.

One by one, I watch them turn,
Straining hard to see and learn;
Yet more I try to hold them near,
The less the blurred horizons clear.

The nights grow short, the thoughts awake,
My frayed nerves feel about to break.
A restless pulse begins to rise,
As patience stumbles, fades, and dies.

It takes all strength within my chest
To keep from falling, unpossessed;
To stop the spiral in the dark,
And hold the last surviving spark.

So here I pause. I close my eyes,
And let the weary breathing rise.
I step away from all the strain,
And turn my back against the pain—

Calling to mind the safest place,
The steady warmth of love’s embrace:
Those precious anchors held so dear,
Whose presence draws the quiet near.

Slowly, the heavy shadows part.
A sudden warmth reclaims the heart;
A fragile smile begins to trace
The lines of sorrow off my face.

And in that warmth, I finally see:
Not all the darkness swallows me;
A quiet truth begins to dawn,
To whisper that the worst is gone.

The friendly faces standing near
Dispel the shadows and the fear,
And lend me strength to rise again,
To leave behind the past and pain.

Held by their friendship and their grace,
I find my ground, I find my place;
With peaceful heart and steady stride,
I walk ahead, with hope beside.
